This Very Good to Excellent condition program contains 25 perfectly preserved fountain pen autographs, which all rate either 9/10 or 10/10 in quality. The signatures begin on page 11 where head coach Elmer Layden of
Four Horsemen
fame inscribed one of the finest known examples of his signature. Additionally, 24 Notre Dame players signed the interior pages of the program next to each of their respective pictures. The program cover exhibits tremendous visual appeal and all of the colors are bright, original, and vivid. The lower right corner of the cover has a small crease, there are some spine stress lines, other light surface wrinkles, and some modest corner wear. The inner pages are brand new and white. The staples are tight, original and in Mint condition. The middle scorecard pages are bright red and unscored.
In 1939 Notre Dame finished the season at 7-2, ranked #12 in the nation. Notable players listed and pictured (but not autographed) from the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans are Harry Smith, Ambrose Schindler, and Jack Banta. The legendary USC coach Howard Jones is also pictured.
